One of the greatest challenges for geneticists is the identification of genetic determinants involved in complex traits. These diseases do not show Mendelian patterns of inheritance and involve the interactions of both genetic and environmental factors, to produce an overall risk factor for developing the disorder. In this talk I will give an introduction to genetic mapping of complex traits in human, and discuss the development of different approaches, from linkage analysis to genetic association studies in populations and analysis of copy-number variation.
