Abstract

The advent of next-generation sequencing technologies is revolutionizing genetic research. Their Important applications range from genome sequencing, ChIP-seq to transcriptome analysis and small RNA discovery. Here, I will give an introduction to Illumina/Solexa sequencing platform and discuss its potential applications in genetic analysis. Data from our current projects based on Solexa sequencing, including balanced translocation breakpoint cloning, miRNA profiling and discovery, and etc, will also be presented. In the accompanying workshop, the technical details about the Illumina/ Solexa sequencing technology will be discussed.
